STUDIO OPENINGS

Short notice I know, but if you're free tonight and you've never visited The Nicholas Building before, go and check it out (it only happens twice a year).  Whilst packed with lots of little studios, it also has some of the quirkiest, old school lifts and lift operators, reminiscent of the 'Delicatessen' movie.

This weekend on Saturday and Sunday 11- 4pm River Studios is open to the public.
This is a 3 storey, 3000m2 warehouse functioning as a creative hub for 75 Artists. Launched by Creative Spaces, this West Melbourne warehouse has been cleverly refurbished using recycled and sustainable materials.
41-59 Sims Street, West Melbourne.

Collaboration RONE and USUGROW & TOSHIKAZU NOZAKA.

Last month I visited RONE's exhibition 'L'Inconnue De La Rue'.

The scale, graffiti, collage and multitude of moods created, using images of one girl, was impressive and tactile to say the least.
Lack of time didn't afford me to post it, sorry.  However Rone recently collaborated with these two underground Artists from Tokyo and it's an engaging mix. Usugrow and Toshikazu are currently exhibiting at the Backwoods gallery.

Occasionally we use this technique in Roar Drawing.  Often the results are completely unexpected when  working with marks that are foreign to us, propelling us to move outside our familiar territory.  Adding yet another dimension to our work.

Artist of the Week, Marianna Giordana

The strength of this work lies in the exposure of all the underlying facets.  It breathes new life.  There are no manicured lawns here, each drawing is a work in progress, one preceding the last, building relationships and continuity.  You can feel the momentum.

Monday 18 July 2011

Artist of the Week, Kellah Thompson

This type of work only happens when you are brave enough to break the visual skin, dig deep and be vulnerable.  Kellah's work is completely honest and primal. She has the innate ability to go directly to accessing her true sensibilities.

Artist of the Week, Georgia Miles

Georgia didn't simply arrive at this bold masterpiece.  She has been committed to gradually releasing her marks week by week.  Peeling back the layers to unveil her natural, authentic self.  Ahh an epiphany. This is really powerful and engaging work.

Artist of the Week, Tamar Dolev

This work is so unobstructed, so completely free flowing and uninhibited.  Raw drawing is precisely this, it's not tidied up, it's not processed. It's immediate and breathes energy and a life force, translated directly from the hand of the Artist.
