NO CLASS THURSDAY 21st APRIL

Due to most people being away for the Easter break, there will be NO CLASS on 21st.  Sorry for any inconvenience, classes will resume on 28th April as normal.

Thanks for the amazing turn out last week.  The collective Creative Energy in the room was brilliant.

Why should we all use our creative power ......? Because there is nothing that makes people so generous, joyful, lively, bold and compassionte, so indifferent to fighting and the accumulation of objects and money.
BRENDA UELAND

Artist of the Week, Belinda Evans

This is strong work.  I find this face incredibly haunting and mystifying.  Belinda 'prefers' to work on the ground by the way, rather than a table or easel.

Artist of the Week, George Parlalis

George had the novel idea of using a feather dipped in ink, along with his usual paint brushes. Discovering new mark making techniques, whether we choose to adopt them or not, is another way for us to hit the refresh button.
The feather in this case has created a lovely sensuous texture.

HOT TIP

You can buy this bottle of great quality ink from the Newsagent in China Town.  Only 6 Dollar maiiite :)

Artist of the Week, Carla Banks

In the last half hour Carla broke out of her box and produced this fluid piece.  The red contrasted background adds a bold extra dimension.

Heide Museum of Modern Art

Recently I visited the Heidi Museum of Modern Art, and I thoroughly urge everyone to attend.  It is jam packed full of brilliant exhibitions - Mirka, Albert Tucker's 'Images of Evil', Colour Bazaar and Drawings.

John Olsen Pelicans and waterway 1978

There were numerous accounts for inspiration and quotes that are completely sinominous with that of Roar Drawing.  I shall share a few.........

At the Drawing exhibition by artists such as Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, Erica McGilchrist, Fred Williams and Peter Booth they quoted that.......

'Drawing is widely considered to be the most personal and immediate of art disciplines.'

Peter Booth said.....
...... he draws constantly to discover images and subjects arising from observed and imagined realities.

......the drawings attempt to reveal the forces within nature rather than the external appearance of it's forms.

......the atmosphere of a place would determine the style and mood of those images.  He would begin by focusing on a small detail of the landscape then allow the drawing to develop spontaneously, combining his observations with the imagery from memory and his imagination.

MIRKA MORA

MIRKA a Melbourne favourite.

Mirka has a long time attachment to Dolls, she has said that.......
'A doll to me is not an inanimate object; a doll captures childhood........ it means that ....... I am still able to search and discover.  Because childhood means discovery in the sense that nothing is fixed yet; all roads are still open.'
